Introduction
According to the 2024 National Kitchen & Bath Association report, more than 600 industry experts agree that clients want "sociable, welcoming kitchens that encourage healthy habits with simple clean designs." Green is predicted as the most popular cabinet and wall color, with nearly 60% of respondents indicating demand for dedicated beverage areas.
1. Fluted Wood
Fluted wood finishes with textured, ribbed lines are elevating wooden cabinets in 2024. Nearly one-fourth of designers confirmed fluted finishes would be significant, particularly with natural wood. "As designs lean toward bringing the outside in, textures will also mimic nature, with more reeded styles for cabinetry."
2. Dedicated Beverage Areas
60% of respondents indicated clients want dedicated beverage centers. These now include coffee/tea service, water dispensers, under-counter refrigeration, and frozen goods storage. 53% specifically requested coffee centers while 56% wanted dedicated appliance work zones.

3. 'Wrap-Around' Islands
78% of designers prioritized island design for 2024. About half surveyed said clients prefer "wrap-around" seating rather than traditional linear arrangements. 57% prefer eat-in kitchens with maximized islands over formal dining rooms.
4. Green Finishes
Green emerged as the top color choice across all kitchen elements. Designers noted it works in various shades from "deep saturated tones found in the rainforest to soft, muted shades found by the sea." It requires clients comfortable with bold color choices.
5. Layered Lighting
85% of designers agreed ambient lighting should be widely used to create different moods, while 80% said kitchens showcase decorative statement lighting. Multiple layers include task, LED strip, toe kick, under-counter, accent, and decorative lighting.

6. Induction Cooktops
63% of designers predicted induction cooktops will replace gas ranges over three years. This shift relates to health concerns with gas emissions and state-level bans on natural gas hookups in new construction, including California and New York.
7. Bold Porcelain Backsplashes
71% of designers noted backsplashes becoming statement pieces through bold colors and patterns. 61% cited ceramic/porcelain tile as the material of choice. Using bold tile behind the range creates focal points without covering entire kitchen walls.
8. Built-In Organization
90% of designers said homeowners want cabinets with customizable storage like drawer dividers and partitions. Priorities include large deep drawers, pantry cabinets, spice storage, trash/recycling centers, and increasingly, charging stations and hidden outlets.

9. Quiet Luxury Appliances
65% of designers indicated ultra-quiet appliances will be popular, particularly dishwashers in open-concept kitchens. 70% of respondents want appliances paneled to match surrounding cabinets, creating streamlined, integrated looks rather than utilitarian appearances.
10. Sustainability
Sustainability continues gaining importance. 92% of survey respondents used energy-efficient features. Priorities include energy-efficient appliances and windows, water-efficient fixtures, LED bulbs, and storage for recycling to lower bills and environmental impact.
