Transfer Students
Already started your design education elsewhere? IDI welcomes transfer students and evaluates prior coursework to help you continue your studies without starting over.
Overview
Transfer Credit Evaluation
Potential transfer credits are evaluated on an individual basis.
Prospective students can schedule an evaluation of credit. IDI recognizes two different types of transfer credits: credits for classes that are design related, and credit for general education units. Personal and individual evaluation of credit ensures that the prospective student is not taking repetitive classes.
We want to make sure you take the crucial classes that make an IDI graduate unique and successful.
A prospective student is required to submit official transcripts from the accredited college attended and must do so prior to entering the degree program for any classes in design to be accepted as transfer credit.
Process
How It Works
Submit Official Transcripts
Request official transcripts from all previously attended institutions, and upload them when completing the Transfer to IDI form.
Credit Evaluation
Our Director of Education reviews your transcripts to determine which courses meet IDI's curriculum requirements. Evaluations are typically completed within two weeks of receiving all transcripts.
Review Your Evaluation
Meet with an advisor to review accepted transfer credits and understand your remaining program requirements at IDI.
Enroll & Register
Once your evaluation is complete, finalize your enrollment and register for the courses you need to complete your IDI program.
Go to Registration FormRegistration
Transfer Student Registration
After registration form is submitted you will be contacted by Admissions for Degree Completion Advising. Official transcripts from other colleges attended are required for review.
Degree Requirements
General Education for the BA Program
Students who have earned a previous degree from an accredited college in the United States most likely have fulfilled the general education units required for the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interior Design, unless the degree is lacking in areas that support the interior design major.
45 Quarter Credit Units of General Education
General education credits must be taken concurrently with, or prior to completion of, the design courses at the Institute. Upon entering the Institute, each student will consult with our staff to determine the status of any prior general education courses. These credits must be taken at an accredited institution recognized by the Department of Education. A grade of “C” or better is required to transfer credit.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of credits can transfer to IDI?
IDI recognizes two different types of transfer credits: credits for classes that are design related, and credit for general education units.
Is there a minimum grade required for transfer credits?
Only courses with a final grade of a "C" or better can be accepted. Final acceptance is at the discretion of the Institute.
How is design-related credit evaluated?
Design-related course credit is awarded based on a combination of portfolio work and prior college credit. It is never awarded solely on a listing of courses on a transcript. Portfolios are evaluated for transfer credit prior to a student entering the degree program.
Can I transfer design credits after enrolling at IDI?
If a student attends another college after enrolling at IDI, classes that are design related are not eligible for transfer. Only general education units will be accepted once a student has enrolled in the degree program at IDI.
Does IDI have articulation agreements with other schools?
The Institute has not entered into an articulation or transfer agreement with any other college or university.
Can I transfer credits from IDI to another institution?
If a student decides to transfer from Interior Designers Institute to another college, it is the responsibility of that student, not the Institute, to investigate any necessary transfer requirements. The Institute cannot guarantee transfer of credits.
Does IDI award credit for experience or testing?
The Institute does not award credit for practical experience. The Institute does not accept ability-to-benefit students. There is no credit given through challenge examinations or achievement tests.
